There are more than five projects at various stages of development approved by City of Alexandria along or surrounding the Potomac Yard section of the City. This part of town borders with Arlington and only minutes from the District. It is conveniently located, even though, not really close to the nearest Metro station, Crystal City.
Potomac Yard Redevelopment, will be the biggest project built on the former site of railroad tracks, south of the Potomac Yard shopping center. In addition to 1.8 million sq.ft office space, 135,000 sq.ft of retail space (in addition to the existing 600K sq. ft Potomac Yard shopping center) and 1,973 residential units.

Two nation's big developers, Centex Homes and Pulte Homes, teamed up to redevelop the former railroad tracks off Route 1 a.k.a Jefferson Davis Highway within the City of Alexandria boundary. It will be a mixed-use development sits on approximately 167 acres, south of Potomac Yard shopping center. The famous Del Ray neighborhood is walking distance from this project.
The other four projects are also at various stages of development with the exception of the Preston at Potomac Yard, the recently completed 53 condominiums located directly across Potomac Yard shopping center.
Potomac Greens and Potomac Plaza with 120 luxury townhome units with price range in the upper-$700's to $1,045,000. Features of the community include swimming pool, club house, and a new Potomac Plaza. Permits are pending for a new coffee shop and a full service restaurant for the plaza. Adjacent to this site, Centex Homes is working on a project to build 128 units condominium.
Then there is Nordic Press Site, pending permit from the City to build low-rise condominium with loft option on an existing warehouse site. Old Town Court, is luxury small community of twelve 3 BR condominium with price range in the upper-$900's.
