It looks like Wegmans coming to Alexandria sounds like 'almost' a sure thing now. The last we checked plan it was still pending. Well, if the county okays the redevelopment, that should be a good sign for the grocery, right?
Here is the latest update from the county about Hilltop Sand and Gravel redevelopment for mixed-use that includes retail, office and residential, via Fairfax County DPZ's email.
Source: Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning (DPZ),
Subject: Comprehensive Plan Amendment #S08-IV-RH1 (Hilltop Sand & Gravel)
The Board of Supervisors adopted Plan Amendment (PA) S08-IV-RH1 which amended the Comprehensive Plan for Tax Map parcels 100-1((1))9pt, 11A, 11A1, 14 and 15. The approximately 33 acre property is generally located north of Telegraph Road and east of Beulah Street. The Plan recommendations for the subject property are contained in the Rose Hill Planning District, in the Leehigh Community Planning Sector (RH4), Area IV volume of the Comprehensive Plan. The amendment allows for development with a mix of uses including retail, office and residential. [emphasis added]
That's the green light from the county for a mixed-use project that will anchor Wegmans.
